The Old Tannery cottage encapsulates the charm of village life.
Nestled in the rural village of Thurstonland, but only 4 miles south of bustling Huddersfield, it gives you the opportunity to explore the best of the British countryside, whilst only being a short distance from the convenience and facilities of a town. The village is situated on a hilltop in West Yorkshire, just outside the boarders of the Peak District National Park.

Castle Hill
Castle Hill is a site developed as an iron age hill fort surrounded by defensive ditches and ramparts located in Almondbury overlooking Huddersfield. In the Middle Ages there was a castle on the hill, of which the well remains. The present tower was built to commemorate Queen Victoria’s Diamond Jubilee of 1897.
Greenhead Park
The perfect place to unwind, relax and enjoy the wonderful environment and landscape. It’s a fantastic place to spend time with friends, enjoy the changing of the seasons, play on the swings, or grab a cuppa in the café by the tennis courts.
Beaumont Park

Kirklees Light Railway

Kirklees Way
These are moderate walks, with 12 sections that link up to form a wide boundary around the Kirklees area. Each section starts and finishes near to a bus stop, enabling you to get home easier.
Each of these walks are between 5 and 7 miles.
Kirklees Way
From Rose & Crown car park, cross road to Chapel (1) and climb (steps) uphill to top. Drop down to right, over ladder stile (2). Bear left and down to join Occupation Lane (3). Left, then right at road and down to FP sign to left (4). Straight ahead – wall at right, then at corner cross over to left side and follow wall on left until after 2nd mound (5). Turn left by gate towards silo, then up to house with big hedge (6). Right at road, then left and up between houses. At next road, left, then right (7) before T-junction. Straight on now, gently dropping to cross stream and then up, past wood on left and on to gate in corner (8). Left between house & barn, thro’ gate. Leaving farm, down track curving right (ignore FP gate on right). Straight on, with wood to right, until FP post (9). Left across large field – aim for distant lone holly bush (bearing 300°). Down steps, cross stream (10) and left to road. Cross and up & up! (fence to left). Road at top – left then right onto Ing Head Lane (11). Immediately take FP to right. Straight on past tree and over wall (by dead trees) bearing left to gap in wooden fence. Follow arrows, then left (12) at end of enclosure towards main road. Cross and down to railway line (13). Cross and left into wood. Cross stream, up and over hill and down to next stream. Up to driveway nr. Woodend (14). Turn left and left again at main road. Take the next left down track but right at bend into fields. Down to valley bottom, then up to road (15). Left and then right at T-junction (16) and straight on going past Old Co-op (17) and War Memorial (18) back up to the pub at the top of the hill.
